Below is a google map of my stops for the night. I only listened to one album during this trip, and probably only four or five times. Consider 9 days of 8+ hrs/ day cycling and only listening to 5 hrs of music. Suprised me at least. “Feel Good Lost” by Broken Social Scene

  1. My husband son and I are trying to get a feel for the best route to take across the state, as we plan for a bike trip this summer, would you mind sharing your route and any advice? Thanks!

    1. Sure! The above maps show the basic outlines of the trip. I started in Highlands, NC which is pretty close to the western tip, then followed the blue ridge parkway nearly to virginia, and followed the virginia border out to Kitty Hawk NC so as to avoid Charlotte and the triad. I’d say the 50 miles from Highlands to the Blue Ridge Parkway was the most dangerous and the most difficult, with lots of winding turns and huge climbs. The Blue Ridge parkway is beautiful and has the least elevation climbs / falls in the mountains. Though there isn’t any camping on it. I would camp 2 nights and stay in a hotel the third. If its your first trip, be sure to bring enough clean pairs of bike shorts (search bike seat rash, NOT FUN! ), that was my biggest shortfall. I bought a good map of NC roads and used that mostly, if again, I’d get a solar phone charger to strap to the back of the bike.
