Spent two nights camping and hiking around Joshua Tree National Park, in southern California. There’s something alluring about the desert that attracts people who come from more green, lush ecosystems. Its so quiet and empty. I heard a bird call several miles into a hike, and realized it was the first thing I’d heard other than wind in hours. There is a type of person who finds themselves at home in the desert. I’m not sure how much of me is that person, but I’ve met a few out there; people who’ve left the standard path and taken on a more nomadic lifestyle.
